The largest repository of commercially produced Mexican and Mexican-American vernacular recordings.

Services Provided

The CSRC launched a digitization program by digitizing more than 140,000 recordings, all from the first half of the 20th century, that are now available online through the University of California’s Digital Library Program.

Who We Serve

Full access to these primary source materials is currently available to UCLA students, faculty, and staff; others may view the labels and listen to a portion of each recording.

Mission and Goals

The digital archive enables wide-ranging research in Mexican and Mexican-American culture and ensures that the lyrics, music, and tales in the Strachwitz Frontera Collection be available to scholars and the public for generations to come.
