The UCLA Teacher Education Program prepares aspiring teachers to work in historically under-resourced communities in schools in the Los Angeles area. Our commitments and coursework are guided by a social justice agenda grounded in the belief that schooling can be made more equitable and responsive to communities of color.

Services Provided

We engage TEP students in various community-based projects and field experiences to develop their community knowledge, foster a culturally responsive pedagogy, and sustain their commitment to teaching in urban schools.

Who We Serve

We serve K12 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Centinela Valley Union High School District, and the Lawndale Elementary School District.

Mission and Goals

Sharing in the mission of Center X, we work to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society by preparing highly qualified teachers to work in under-resourced communities.

I chose UCLA TEP because it demonstrated a commitment to breaking the the barriers many students of color face in our public education system. UCLA TEP demonstrated a commitment to supporting teachers in their work with some of the most underserved and underrepresented students.

Being a teacher comes with numerous challenges, but one saving grace I gained from this program is the amount of support from peers in the cohort and the advisors. It gets stressful at times, but the relationships we build help me relieve some of that stress and better my practice.
