The UCLA Center for Healthy Climate Solutions (C-Solutions) turns climate and health science into programs and tools that government agencies and communities use to reduce harm. We map where heat, wildfire smoke, and other climate hazards hit hardest, using geospatial epidemiology, exposure science, and health outcome data. We built the prediction models behind CalHeatScore, the state's early-warning tool that ranks heat-related harm by ZIP code, and that same data guides local governments on where resources such as cooling amenities are needed most. We co-design health resilience programs and other community-driven tools with the people experiencing the mental and physical harm caused by climate hazards, so the tools we build reduce preventable harm.
Services Provided
Conducts health impact research through geospatial epidemiology, exposure assessment, and community-informed methods; characterizes health impacts from climate hazards and map who faces the greatest health risks; translates findings into policy frameworks and public discourse that government actors can implement, prioritizing health disparities; develops evidence-based tools; partners on research that informs regulatory and planning decisions; and provides expert analysis for emergency response and recovery.
